The new Processing Baseline 3.29 includes the following main evolutions:
More information available in the Product Notice on SentiWiki
The new Processing Baseline 3.29 includes the following main evolutions:
- A Sea Ice Type information is available in the Sea Ice Thematic Product, extracted from OSI-SAF 403-d products. Sea ice type classifies ice-covered areas into two categories, based on the sea ice age: multiyear ice versus seasonal first-year ice.
- A new surface type variable is available in the Land Ice Thematic Product, extracted from the BedMachine data set. With this information, users will be able to more accurately discriminate ice sheet and ice shelf surfaces in Antarctica and Greenland. The information is also used to determine with better accuracy the adequate set of geophysical corrections applied on the altimeter range.

Antarctica
- New product variables are available in the Hydrology Thematic Product, providing information related to Open Loop Tracking Command (OLTC) settings. For each 20 Hz records, users will be able to know if the on-board tracking was finely tuned, or not, for monitoring water bodies overflown by the satellite. The location of these hydrological targets can be found here.
- The inclusion of additional islands, and the Maracaibo Lake, in the Hydrology Thematic Products. Polygons from the HydroLakes database are defined over the new selected islands.

Copernicus Sentinel-1 L1 and L2 Products: New Processing Baseline
11 Jun 2024
We are pleased to announce a new processing baseline for Copernicus Sentinel-1 L1 and L2 products.
The products generated after the deployment of this version tag version 3.8.0 of the operational processor in the corresponding product metadata.
The new Processing Baseline includes:
The Sentinel-1 Level-2 OSW Algorithm Technical Baseline and Sentinel-1 product specification documents were minimally amended in accordance to the Level-2 changes, but with no change in product format. Moreover the Sentinel-1 Auxiliary product specification was extended to include description of the new auxiliary data file (AUX_ML2) and update description of AUX_SCS and AUX_PP1 formats. The applicable documents to version 3.8.0 can be accessed here.
Please note that upon deployment, a temporary deactivation of total HS in the L2 OSW product (oswTotalHs) will be implemented, as disclaimed in here. The date for reactivation of the variable remains to be confirmed
The products generated after the deployment of this version tag version 3.8.0 of the operational processor in the corresponding product metadata.
The new Processing Baseline includes:
- Level-1:
- Correction of burst ID annotation in SLC products for acquisitions close the ascending nodes. This was a recurrent anomaly reported in quality disclaimers Nr. 215, 213 and correlated ones (see https://sar-mpc.eu/disclaimer/);
- Transfer of all parameters related to configuration of RFI mitigation from internal configuration to the auxiliary data file AUX_PP1, making the parameters visible to end users.
- Correction of burst ID annotation in SLC products for acquisitions close the ascending nodes. This was a recurrent anomaly reported in quality disclaimers Nr. 215, 213 and correlated ones (see https://sar-mpc.eu/disclaimer/);
- Level-2:
- Support to Sentinel-1C and Sentinel-1D data
- Correction of projection of the Simulated Cross Spectra extracted from simulated cross-spectral (in AUX_SCS auxiliary data file) into the computed cross spectra. This was a long stating software issue preventing further improvement of the swell inversion.
- update of AUX_SCS format: change the format and content of the simulated cross spectra considered for swell inversion.
- Declaration of a new auxiliary data file called AUX_ML2 which contains machine learning models considered by the Level-2 processor (currently for Total Significant Wave Height estimation and flagging of the swell partitions). Those models were not available for the end-users before and their placement in an auxiliary data file aims to support open science and an easier update of processing baseline after an eventual retraining.
- Correction of denoising performed by the swell inversion module for estimation of wind speed and activation of the de-noising via dedicated AUX_PP2 configuration.
- Support to Sentinel-1C and Sentinel-1D data

Copernicus Sentinel-3 L1 Processing Baseline 3.26 ready to be released
22 Apr 2024
We are pleased to announce a new processing baseline ID for Copernicus Sentinel-3 concerning the following products:
SLSTR L1 products SL_1_RBT
The new Processing Baseline includes:
The new processing baseline will be deployed on 23 April 2024 for Copernicus Sentinel-3A and Sentinel-3B.
SLSTR L1 products SL_1_RBT
The new Processing Baseline includes:
- Inclusion of an Online Quality check parameter in SLSTR L1 product. To ease the distinction between nominal products and the ones affected by an operational anomaly, the definition of the Online Quality check parameter – included in the manifest file – has been reviewed. This parameter can now be associated with three different values: FAILED (in case of Manoeuvre, important percentage of missing data on all bands, …), DEGRADED (in case of pointing issue or inappropriate/missing VISCAL or NAVATT files) or PASSED (nominal conditions).
- Improvement of the SLSTR surface classification. This evolution is focusing on the coastline classification, considering the whole pixel field of view (FOV defined by 6 corners) acquired by SLSTR and no longer the center of the pixel. Following this modification, coastline is no longer discontinuous and is now defined as the interface between land and ocean areas but also as the interface between land and inland water pixels. Two additional parameters (count_water and count_water_orphan) have also been added in the flags_xx.nc file and are providing, for each coastline pixel, the number of FOV corners over water.
The new processing baseline will be deployed on 23 April 2024 for Copernicus Sentinel-3A and Sentinel-3B.
